This tutorial is on how to process duplicate motorcycle number plate in Uganda through URA for those motorcycles which currently have single (back) number plates only. But if your motorcycle is one with the front and back plates, this does not apply to you fully.
In case you just lost your number plate and wondering how to go about processing the duplicate, and or tried and encountered this error, ” www.ura.ug says, You cannot proceed with this process before issuance of a second (Front) plate for this motorcycle”, this article takes you through the entire guide right from how to get started, applying and get your number plate.
Since Uganda revenue authority takes on the handling and processing of all motor vehicle and cycle registration and issuance of related documents including number plates, logbooks and etc, its the same government agency which takes on the processing of duplicate plates. Certain procedures must be followed with regard to processing duplicate motor cycle number plate (single back plate) and below are what you need to follow.
First steps to follow
1. Report loss of motor cycle reg number plate to the police.
2. Secure Police letter aka To whom it may concern indicating the details of the plate lost.
3. Make a news paper advert and wait for 14 days (2 weeks) after its released.
4. Keep the full page of the newspaper advert where your plate is placed.
Second steps to follow
1. Log into your TIN on URA Web portal using your account credentials.
2. Hover on Motor vehicle and click Applications.
3. Select new form from the drown and click on “Issuance of 2 registration plates”.
4. Fill in the entire form and the payment option.
5. Print form and take it to MoWT Licensing in Nakawa for Task closure.
Please note that you might be required to provide the other attachments in step one above and which you should. Its advisable or you to move with them when taking the acknowledgment form for 2 number plate issuance.
Third steps to follow
1. Log into your TIN on URA Web portal using your account credentials.
2. Hover on Motor vehicle and click Applications.
3. Select new form from the drown and click on “Duplicate”.
4. Fill in all other requirements including the date of reporting, where you reported and etc.
5. Fill in the payment form and select the bank of your choice eg DTB, Stanbic and etc
6. Print all forms including the payment slip and go make a payment to the bank.
You should now attach the police report, original or certified copy of news advert, application form and bank payment slip. Take them to URA licensing you selected for application processing. Once your application has been approved, you will get a message indicating where your number plates will be picked from eg Tumpeco or ABC.
You can now go and make a number plate payment at the said company offices around Nakawa and wait till your number is ready (which is usually a day). Thereafter you will be able to pick it and the process will be done.
