Just like it is for new motor registration log books regardless of whether for a vehicle, m/cycle, car, trailer and any other being issued by the Ministry of Works and Transport, the same applies when it comes to the Duplicate Logbook in any event which may call for it.
Whether you bought a vehicle and the previous owner disappeared with no traces, whether you lost your Logbook or any other, such a situation or situations do call for an issue of a duplicate registration card and which is when the MoWT intervenes as its one of their work.
One thing you should note is what triggers your need for the duplicate log book and below are situations and their procedures when applying for a duplicate log-book for your motor in Uganda assuming that the cards where about is no where (I mean when you don’t have the card with you – lost).
Duplicate Card Not In Your Own Names.
This process will require you to transfer the motor into your own names before a duplicate-card is issued and below is how to go about the process.
- Visit any nearest Police and report the loss. Make sure you are given a duplicate issue request report.
- Visit any media (newspapers) like New Vision, Monitor or any of your choice and place an 2 Advert for your lost and call for Transfer.
- Take the Motor vehicle for Inspection at Ministry of Works and Transport.
- Attach your national ID copy, police report, photocopy of lost card if any, inspection report and the news Advert.
- Proceed to court and make a manual or forced transfer court order (call 0752009001 for help).
- Once the court order is ready, pay stamp duty and proceed to the MoWT Licensing office at Nakawa and submit the papers.
If it is a manual transfer, you will need to validate and also make payments of the issued assessments including alterations if any and the transfer fees on the day of submission. For forced transfers, the assessment will be give out once the court order has been certified and the transfer will be effected.
